They are given a yellow envelope containing money and instructions to be used to help others.
With this they face many challenges whilst venturing through Ecuador, Peru, Nepal and beyond.
2. A Year In Provence
In this story, Peter Mayle tells us about realizing his lifelong dream of moving into a 200 year old stone farmhouse in Southern France.
It’s witty, funny and a really enjoyable book to read!
3. Eat Pray Love
I am pretty sure you have either heard of the film or even seen it!
This book became a massive hit when it was released in 2006, and was adapted into a film in 2010.
It’s all about the life of the author, Elizabeth Gilbert, and how she set out on a path no one thought could be possible.
Join her on her life changing journey to Italy, India and Bali where she learns to eat, to pray and how to love!
4. My Holiday in North Korea: The Funniest/Worst Place on Earth
Whilst most people want to get away from North Korea, author Wendy Simmons wanted to get in.
In this surprisingly funny book, Wendy shares her accounts of visiting a country most seem to fear.
Now most of us may not want to visit this country, but this book is an interesting take on what it’s like to visit!
5. The Elephant Whisperer: My Life with the Herd in the African Wild
This book is truly amazing!
In this true story, Lawrence Anthony tells his incredible story about how he took in a herd of wild elephants in order to save them.
One quickly realizes just how amazing these creatures are, and how one human becomes part of this beautiful herd of elephants.
The book is both heartwarming and sad, and will appeal to both animal lovers and adventurous people!
6. The Good Girl’s Guide to Getting Lost: A Memoir of Three Continents, Two Friends, and One Unexpected Adventure
The thing I like most about this book is how relatable it is to so many people.
Rachel Friedman was a good girl who always played it safe and had good grades. Until one day where she surprises not only the people around her, but also herself, and books a one way ticket to Ireland.
Here she meets a free-spirited Australian traveller, and together they embark on an amazing adventure.
It’s a quick reminder of how when we get out of our comfort zones, amazing things can happen!
7. Shantaram: A Novel
This novel will keep you up all night as it’s so hard to put down!
Based on what happened to Gregory David Roberts, you quickly fall in love with this gripping story about an ex prisoner from Australia who finds himself living in the slums of Bombay.
Although it’s a very long book, it seems to keep you wanting more and more with each chapter!
8. Into The Wild
This is yet another book that was turned into a Hollywood film.
It follows the life of Christopher Johnson McCandless who comes from a well off American family, but is chasing something different as to what is expected of him.
Follow his journey into the Alaskan wilderness, and see how he creates a new life for himself.
9. The Beach
This is the original book that actually inspired to me to travel, so it had a big impact on me. It is also the sole reason I chased Thailand as a travel destination for so long!
Every now and then I’ll watch the film adaption of it, and it still has the exact same effect on me.
If you want an amazing story that’ll definitely fuel your wanderlust, then give book a read.
10. The Last Rhinos: My Battle to Save One of the World’s Greatest Creatures
From the man who brought us The Elephant Whisperer, Lawrence Anthony decided to try and save the last few northern white rhinos. The only problem was that they were in one of the most dangerous locations on Earth, an area of the Congo controlled by the infamous Lord’s Resistance Army.
Defying all odds, Lawrence directly contacts the head of the LRA, and put his life at such a big risk in order to try save a beautiful species.
Have you read any books have inspired you to travel?
